Embassy of Tunisia, New Delhi plans e-Visa for Indian travellers

Travel BIZ
Addressing its first ever press meet in the city recently, the Embassy of Tunisia, New Delhi informed TravelBiz Monitor that they plan to launch e-Visa for Indian nationals to boost tourism from India. Currently Indians willing to travel to Tunisia have to apply through a travel agent or in-person at the embassy. The visa process takes 10 working days and is processed at a fee of INR 2700 in cash (non-refundable). Those travelling in a group of five or more can avail visa on arrival free of charge, if booking through a Tunisian Destination Management Company (DMC).

Nejmeddine Lakhal, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, New Delhi said, “2900 Indians visited to Tunisia in 2016, 90% of which were business travellers. There are a number of Indian companies working with their counterparts in Tunisia. Even students from India are going to Tunisia to be a certified pilot. We feel that the tourism potential is even more and to further leverage it, we will be working on launching e-Visa for Indian passport holders may be by the end of this year. The Tunisia Government is also open to provide cash incentives for shooting of films at select locations. Once there are substantial numbers from India, a representation office will be established hopefully by next year. In the meantime, we will be conducting awareness programmes pan India and continue with our participation in travel trade fairs.”

Talking about Tunisia, the Ambassador said that the North African country features 3000 year old history and is an emerging democracy. With 10 million population, Arabic and French is widely spoken in the country. “Tunisia is the answer for travellers looking to travel to a new destination. Tunisian people love Indian culture and its Mediterranean climate makes it suitable for travel round the year. For tourism from India, cities such as Tunis (capital), Sousse, Hammamet, Bizerte, Tozeur and Tabarka are perfect with hotels varying across categories,” recommended Lakhal.

Carriers such as Air India, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, etc. offer via connections to Tunisia from key hubs.
